LMS SG - Landscape of M&S Challenges
Organizational meeting held at 2010 Spring SIW. The Landscape of M&S Challenges Study Group evolved from SISO Executive Committee EXCOM work in strategic planning to increase the relevance of SISO to the world’s M&S community. We envison this work as development of a topology of M&S challenges, which will be referred to as a “landscape” of M&S challenges.

The LMS SG has the potential to better support the top-down management of M&S standards development. The underlying idea is that all standards are contributing to a big picture, which is framed by the “landscape.”

The danger of standards development without such a communicated framework is that standards potentially will become point-solutions for an individual problem.

The SG will:
  • Develop a “landscape of M&S challenges” (taxonomy) to which M&S research contributes in two ways:
    • For recognized challenges, research produces technically sound recommendations
    • New challenges are identified and categorized into the landscape
  • Provide support to other SISO SGs and PDGs as required to further their missions.
  • Actively solicit other organizational efforts to research and address M&S (topic) standards and practices.
  • Make every possible effort to make contact with such organizations for the purpose of collaborating efforts and findings and in sharing the findings of the efforts of this study group.
