The DIS PDG is currently developing a revision to IEEE Std 1278.1-1995 and IEEE Std 1278.1a-1998 which will be IEEE Std 1278.1-200X. The PDG investigated the present use of DIS to identify problems with the existing standard, areas where experimental protocol data units (PDUs) have been developed, and areas where the standard required expansion. The results have been a series of draft standards which address the most pressing and mature requirements of the standard. Draft 13 of the standard was put up for comment in Summer 2007 and the DIS PDG is currently working to complete resolutions for the posted comments. The PDG is on track to complete comment resolution before the Fall 2008 workshop.

The PDG plans to develop Draft 14 and vote to submit this draft to the IEEE to begin the balloting process on the revised standard. The agenda for the Fall 2008 workshop will include planning for the balloting process.

The IEEE New Start Committee approved the establishment of a Working Group to revise IEEE Std 1278.2-1995. The PDG is organizing a drafting group to develop this revision.

Users are invited to participate, both on the DIS PDG Discussion Group reflector, at DIS PDG telecons, Tiger Team telecons and, when possible, at SIWs.

Note: You will not see the DIS PDG Discussion Group or Private DIS PDG Library unless you register to become a member of the DIS PDG.  Registration is free. Just send an email to the DIS PDG Chair, james.mccall@mesa.afmc.af.mil requesting to become a DIS PDG member.  A DIS PDG member is expected to actively participate in updating the IEEE 1278 series of standards.
