SISO Plans Tenth Anniversary Celebration
(A Call for Historical Materials)

This fall marks the tenth anniversary of the first Workshop on Standards for the Interoperability of Distributed Simulations, SISO's immediate ancestor. In celebration of this milestone, we plan to devote part of the Plenary Session of the '99 Fall SIW to recognize some of the principal contributors to the field of distributed simulation interoperability and reuse.

The SISO Conference Committee is calling on all "old-timers" to contribute suggestions for people and milestones that ought to be recognized. We are also seeking historic photos and videotapes, etc. If you have been around this field for several years, please browse though those old files and perhaps those boxes on your closet shelves and see what you can find in the way of historic memorabilia. This ought to be fun!

Send your contributions to Duncan Miller and Jim Shiflett , who are organizing this part of the Plenary Session. We will arrange to copy any materials you loan to us and will return the originals intact to you.

The Fall Plenary will not be just a nostalgia trip. We are also planning to look to the future, with presentations that include international cooperative efforts, operations other than war, and entertainment applications of simulation.

Watch for further details on the SISO Web site, http://www.sisostds.org. And please plan to be with us the week of September 12-17 in Orlando!
