All the steps leading up to balloting are in the final stages of completion, and the balloting of the IEEE P1516, P1516.1, and P1516.2 Standards is about to begin.
The IEEE P1516 Standards consist of the following:
- IEEE P1516 - HLA Framework and Rules
- IEEE P1516.1 - HLA Federate Interface
Specification - IEEE P1516.2 - HLA Object Model Template (OMT) Specification
The sponsor committee for this effort, the Simulation Interoperability Standards Committee (SISC) held their first meeting at the 1999 Spring Simulation Interoperability Workshop (SIW). The SISC officers were elected during this meeting and are as follows:
During this meeting SISC also voted to forward the IEEE P1516, P1516.1, and P1516.2, Standards to IEEE Standards Association (SA) for balloting.
Formation of 3 Ballot Resolution Committees (BRCs) was accomplished to respond to any comments that may be submitted during the balloting of these IEEE Standards.
Since this meeting was held, the SISC Ballot Group has been formed. Invitations to Ballot on the IEEE P1516, P1516.1, and P1516.2 Standards were mailed to the Ballot Pool members. All those interested in being involved in the balloting of these IEEE Standards were required to be members of the IEEE Standards Association and were required to return their Invitations to Ballot by 20 April 1999. The respondees, if they met the IEEE SA membership requirements, formed the ballot groups. There is one ballot group for each of the three standards.
These Ballot Groups have been augmented and are considered balanced. IEEE has received the final drafts of the standards, as well as balloting instructions, balloting format suggestions, and cover letters. Each member of the ballot group should receive a package from IEEE shortly, and the balloting will begin.
